About Us

St. Paul’s Trust is a health and developmental organization working for the poor , needy and deserving masses and to address stigma and discrimination and also to improve the quality of life of those affected by Leprosy, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS or any other disease by empowering them so that they can live as dignified citizens of India. 

It has started its activities in the year 1981 with an avowed objective of striving for the development of weaker and disadvantaged sections of the society.  It has started HIV/AIDS work in the year 1991 through its branch called ACFI (AIDS Control Foundation of India).  The Promoter of St. Paul’s Trust is none other than the renowned Leprologist/Social worker Dr. K.I. Jacob – who created history in the year 1976 by starting “VIMUKTI’” at Kakinada, as a first year M.B.B.S. student.  VIMUKTI is one of the best Leprosy relief and rehabilitation centers in India, which won a national Award from the President of India.

Dr. K.I. Jacob has started St. Paul’s Trust in the year 1981 after completing his house surgency.  Now the Trust has been recognized as a committed NGO having several records to its credit.   

Another feather in the cap of St. Paul’s Trust – UN has recognize the trust as one of the Accredited Institution working against HIV/AIDS and has invited Dr. K.I. Jacob to participate in the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS being held in New York in June 2008.

  • We have produced more than 1300 varieties of IEC (Information Education for Communication) and BCC (Behavioral Change Communication) materials on HIV/AIDS which is a world record.
  • First NGO in India to start home/community owned care and support for PLHA.
  • First NGO in India to start SHG’s with HIV infected and affected women.
  • First NGO in India to start a “Mahila bank”/MAC society for the benefit of HIV infected and affected women.
  • First NGO in India to implement (MIPA – meaningful involvement of people living with HIV/AIDS) in letter and spirit (25 employees of St. Paul’s Trust are HIV positives)
  • Our care and support programme is being recognized as one of the best models in the world.  This is evident from the fact that more than 1200 non governmental organizations within and outside  the country has visited St. Paul’s Trust in the last 5 years to study our care and support program.
  • NDTV made a documentary on how 150 HIV infected children are studying in private and Government schools without Stigma and Discrimination.
  • US based “Washington Post” published an article about our work during ---------
  • USAID (FHI), CRS, Abbot Laboratories (USA) / have been making documentaries about our Care and Support Policy.
  • CNP+ - One of the best district NGO networks – promoted by us.
  • A number of women PLHA having with HIV/AIDS are working as servant maids in our project area.
  • First time in Indian history St. Paul’s Trust, District Collector hosted breakfast to 100 HIV/AIDS infected ladies at Collector’s Bungalow continuously for three years i.e. 1st December 2002, 2003, 2004 (Hatrick)

Vision:

Leprosy /AIDS – free India, Helping the weaker/marginalized sections of the Society (anybody in difficult circumstances) Dignity of God’s creation, though Justice.

Mission:

  1. Work for the development of the weaker & marginalized sections of the society.
  2. Improve the quality of those affected by leprosy, tuberculosis and any other disease.
  3. Reduce the stigma and discrimination among the HIV/AIDS infected and affected people so that they can live as dignified citizens of India.
  4. Undertake programs that will improve the quality of the poor and needy people especially in emergency situations (cyclone, flood etc.)
  5. Propagate the truth that the whole universe is one joint family (Vasudaiva Kutumbakam) and all human beings are brother and sisters.
